Sustainability Practices
Emphasis on Biodegradable Components
Our underlying goal is to design products using natural, biodegradable components as much as possible. We believe our products should leave a minimal trace of their existence if left to the natural processes of biodegradation. As we audit all aspects of our design process to meet this goal, we have avoided the use of synthetics and opted to use 100% natural materials. Along the way we have been discovering amazing companies at the forefront of building biodegradable components with specific use cases in the fashion industry, partnerships we look forward to sharing with you when the time is right.
Plastic Free Product Packaging
Building on our first principle, we have set the goal of removing all plastic from our product packaging and shipment materials by 2020. While being plastic free is just a start, overall carbon impact can actually increase when using materials that require additional processing and recycling. We're still working on finding the right balance but believe this is a step in the right direction.
Reduce Over Reliance on Global Supply Chain Processes
We are firm believers in identifying and dealing with core issues. Part of the major problem is our expectancy of lower priced fashion items that can easily be discarded after a short period. Lower prices more often than not require international transport and cheap overseas labor. We focus on local, small productions whenever possible with the primary goal of creating heirloom quality products that can be used for multiple generations. Built locally in NYC, our products provide a living wage to any employees who undertake any work for us.
Actively Contribute to Repair
The modern fashion industry is one of the leading destructive forces in the history of civilization. Rather than abandon it, we seek to transform it. We have partnered with One Tree Planted to ensure each product sold results in the planting of one tree in reforestation efforts worldwide. We believe in integrating within our business model proactive support for non-profit charitable organizations at the forefront of global change.
